No Fear

Running has given me courage.

Courage to run 10 miles in the Tennessee Smoggy Smoky Mountains in August.

Marathon training in Tennessee

My friend Kim and I getting ready to head out. There are supposed to be pretty mountains in the background.

Courage to try a ropes course 3 stories high.

I know I’m harnessed and all, but it was quite a white-knuckler. And a surprisingly good upper-body workout.

And courage to conquer a huge fear of large amounts of rushing water swallowing me whole.

Class Flippin’ IV. I still cannot believe that was me (front with red helmet, death grip on paddle).

And that was all in one weekend.

Running and distance training have opened up more doors in my life than I could ever imagine. Awesome new friends, a new appreciation of my body, and a big ole’ dose of happy.

Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.” – Mark Twain

Run happy, friends!

P.S. It takes much more courage for many in this world to learn to read. Please donate to my marathon cause today. Even just $10 can help a child get the resources and teachers she needs to become a literate. Thank you. Click on this link.
